The Indonesian 1998 Revolution is the term given to a series of protests and political manoeuverings that brought about the end of the rule of the three-decade long New Order government of the autocratic President Suharto of Indonesia. Though Suharto actually resigned in 1998 (hence giving the revolution its name), the wave of protests and political manoevuerings that forced his resignation spanned over several years, with most placing the beginning in 1996.
